The 2023 Eaglebrook cross country team is off to a fast start. We have 26 runners and 10 meets planned for the season. We started on September 16th with the Brush Invitational, our annual meet held at Deerfield Academy. It is a great race for the Varsity runners to get warmed up and set a strong first time. The next race is a Varsity and Junior Varsity (JV) meet, and the team is looking forward to running a race together on our home course.
Between meets, we train hard. Practices run from 3:15 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. every day after classes. They start with a dynamic stretching routine and a jogging warm-up. Typically, the team breaks into a Varsity and a JV group. Varsity often runs 4 to 6 miles during our long runs, while JV runs 2 to 3 miles. On other days, we focus on speed and strength building by running hill sprints. The end of practice involves a cool-down stretching routine in a large team circle. Sixth Formers usually stand in the middle of the circle and lead the stretches for the younger students.
