Country Fair 2023: Varsity Soccer

Article from the Country Fair 2023 Hearth Issue
The Varsity soccer team is a tight-knit community where we as players get to know one another on and off the pitch on a deeper level, truly fantastic. Captained by the dreamy trio, Nico Potts ’24, Brad Mallory ’24, and Stefan Flaska ’24, we couldn’t have asked for better leaders. We start practices with a team jog around the pitch and some warm-up stretches. From there, drills vary daily from rondos, which is keeping possession of the ball in a square with two people in the middle to small scrimmages and many more.
As a team, we value respect for not only one another but our opponents too. There is always a real sense of brotherhood in the locker room and on the pitch no matter what. Hard work and effort are a requirement for everyone on the team, and the showcase of this hard work is remarkable to see in the game. I can’t wait to witness and be a part of more.
Fast feet and powerful legs are a must in this game of beauty, and Tiger Wu ’24 couldn’t have painted a better picture depicting exactly that while scoring our most recent goal against Fay School.
We have many more matches, our next one being on Friday, September 29th against Fay School again. Hopefully, we create some more opportunities and come out with another victory.
The members of the Varsity soccer team are the following: Brady Chase ’25, Nikita Duncan ’25, Drake Esquer ’24, Stefan Flaska ’24, Mark Lichtner ’24, Brad Mallory ’24, Paco Martin ’25, Vinnie Mercadante ’24, Rush Miller ’24, Charlie Mosier ’24, Andrew Neo ’24, Max Newman ’25, Pato Nickin ’24, Reed Pearce ’24, Nico Potts ’24, Evers Saleeby ’24, Evan Williams ’24, and Eric Zhu ’24, and coached by Mr. Robinson, Dr. Leyden, and Mr. Weichselbaumer.
