Country Fair 2023: Debate Club

The Debate Club is where members improve their public speaking and learn about the vast world of debate. Anyone from Third to Sixth Form can feel free to join.

Our club meets once every two weeks, divided into two groups based on ability. Those starting to learn their debate skills and those preparing for competitions get separated for better effect. In our meetings, we play games designed to make us better public speakers. My personal favorite is the game Taboo. It is challenging to express my ideas while avoiding the most prominent words, and it always cracks me up when one of my fellow club members gives a funny answer. Our team plans to compete against other schools in debate, with our Sixth Form competing against some high schools. As a part of the Massachusetts Speech and Debate League, we will have our first tournaments in October and plan to have monthly debate meets.

During the winter term, we plan to offer a debate tournament to the Eaglebrook students, a friendly competition open to anyone willing to participate.

Overall, the debate club will improve your skills while having fun and let you make new friends. If you are interested in joining our club, feel free to contact Mrs. Pleasant anytime at karen.pleasant@eaglebrook.org.
