Football is a sport where you basically hit each other and score points by running over the goal line. Also, there are several positions in football. There are linebackers who are placed in the defensive position, with the goal of hitting the offensive players and blocking them from getting the ball from the quarterback. The running backs are placed in the offensive position, and get the ball to the quarterback if the quarterback thinks he is unable to throw it to other players. If the running back gets the ball, they have to run as fast as they can to reach the goal line. The receivers are also placed in the offensive line, and their job is to run near the goal line and catch the ball that the quarterback throws. The most important position, the quarterback is the only player on the field who can throw the ball to other players. It is essential for the quarterbacks to throw accurately to their teammates. If not, the team’s offensive chance will end.
During the JV football practices, we first do our warm-ups. For instance, as soon as we step on the field, our team starts running a half-lap. After running, we usually spread ourselves into lines, a maximum of four, and we stretch ourselves by sprinting from line to line. When all the warm-ups are over, we start our football drills. Sometimes we tackle others in full pads, and sometimes we position ourselves and the players so that in a real game we would be able to find our spots.
The JV football coaches this season are Mr. Jack Faulstick (head coach), Mr. Jim Fay, Mr. David Goodrow, Mr. Ejaaz Jiu, Mr. Mark Mariani, and Mr. Tim Winslow ’07.
