Despite the damp and gloomy conditions on a Sunday morning, ten dedicated Eaglebrook students bravely took on the 20th Annual Hot Chocolate Run in Northampton, MA. The 5 kilometer race served as a fundraiser for Safe Passage, a Hampshire County organization addressing domestic violence. This year, over $790,000 was raised for the event, with over 5,000 participants running. This has had a profound impact on thousands of families, helping Safe Passage respond to numerous people in abusive relationships. Eaglebrook’s involvement in the event proudly reflected the school’s Core Values and beliefs.
Among the students involved were Adrian Shin ’24, Alonso Jurado ’26, Tomas Tejapaibul ’24, Peter Lakey ’24, Joey Holland ’26, Easton Ge ’26, Ginga Tokuno ’25, Sebastian Woo ’24, Johnny Chen ’27, and Dylan Kang ’25, accompanied by Mr. Townsend and Ms. Pleasant. The road was filled to the brim with runners of all ages. Many were dressed in elaborate costumes to spread festivity and solidarity. Positive energy could be felt throughout the race as runners encouraged each other to keep pushing through. Countless spectators lined the roads, eagerly cheering on the participants. The students pushed themselves to their limits in an arduous race made only more demanding by the harsh conditions. Through completing the race, they exhibited sheer resilience, mental fortitude, and commitment to the community.
Crossing the finish line was exhilarating and satisfying. Runners lined up to receive their complimentary mug as a reward for their participation and effort. Following the impressive performances, each runner could fill up on hot chocolate as they wished, a much-needed refreshment after a cold and demanding run. People congratulated each other for their achievements and had a ubiquitous sense of solidarity. Overall, the event was incredibly fulfilling for every single participant, as they ran for a noble and just cause in challenging conditions.
