Language Carolers

This year, the Language Carolers sang the following six songs beautifully during the Candlelighting ceremony: “Sevivon,” Hebrew; “Peng You,” Chinese; “Campana Sobre Campana,” Spanish; “Il Est Né Le Divin Enfant,” French; “Tinnite,” Latin; and, finally, “Go Tell It On The Mountain,” English. Despite the songs being in different languages, they all spread the same message of Christmas joy, reflecting the happiness on campus. The tradition of singing these various songs in a wide range of languages with holiday spirit celebrates Eaglebrook’s diversity of cultures, opinions, and personalities.

Students volunteered to sing with the group and were duly invited to practice after school immediately. With rehearsals daily during the newly implemented activity periods, we had the opportunity to practice and familiarize ourselves with the pronunciation of words and rhythm. With help from those who studied the songs’ languages, we were able to learn from each other using teamwork, and many friendships were formed as a result.

The Language Carolers extend their gratitude to numerous faculty. We were lucky enough to have Ms. Luker on the piano keeping us on track and Mr. Lamb for organizing us. Mrs. Leyden and Ms. Blain took the time to help us refine our skills during practice. Most of all, we thank the Eaglebrook language teachers for helping us connect with the world and our community through language. Being a part of the Language Carolers was a fun and simple way to engage in the constant learning, growth, and brotherhood that is Eaglebrook.
