New Hearth Website!

Article from the Winter Carnival 2024 Hearth Issue
Greetings, fellow Brookies! Since 1945, The Hearth has been a medium for students to write about recent Eaglebrook events—from sports to new clubs to other happenings in our one-of-a-kind community. Now, The Hearth, partnering with the new Eaglebrook Innovation Club, has a new website at https://www.eaglebrook.io/tag/hearth/, allowing the publication to reach beyond our community. This new outreach gives anyone, from alumni to prospective students to parents, a window into Eaglebrook life in the best way possible: from the students.
So, why the sudden addition of a website? Well, while newspapers are cool, they have their limitations despite growing on trees. After all, when was the last time you read a newspaper other than this one? The new website opens many doors for The Hearth, such as enabling the creation of longer articles, as writers no longer have to worry about physical space constraints. Furthermore, the unlimited space of the Internet gives students the ability to write far more articles on a wider span of topics—many articles may now be online-exclusives going forward. Even the ability to access The Hearth from your Chromebook, phone, or any device with an internet connection is highly convenient.
Staying true to The Hearth’s student-run spirit, the Innovation Club manages the new website with minimal faculty input. The website runs on Ghost, an online publishing platform trusted by many major tech companies such as DuckDuckGo and freeCodeCamp. It features fast loading speeds, a clean user interface, and smart search engine optimization (SEO). Try Googling “Eaglebrook Hearth,” and you will notice the new site at the top of the results. Of course, nothing is perfect so the Innovation Club is open to suggestions and criticism.
Innovation and creativity are essential to Eaglebrook’s philosophy. Despite having a firm stance on the potential negatives of excessive technology use, the school and its community recognize the countless opportunities technology brings in our fast-evolving world. The new website for The Hearth is only a small part of that. If you are interested in joining The Hearth, the Innovation Club, or simply have a suggestion to improve the site, contact Ms. Bedell, Ms. Leyden, or the various members of the Innovation Club—you can find us on Eaglebrook.io.
