The Thirds Hockey team this year had a not-so-great start to the season. The team has played 3 games so far, winning one game and losing two of them. Our season opener was against Keene, a travel team located in New Hampshire, and we won 9-2. Our second game was against the local team Franklin County. Sadly, we lost 5-4. During the game, Reed Pearce ‘24 got injured, breaking his wrist, which was a tragic incident for our team, especially because he is the captain. Our most recent game was against Rumsey Hall School, which we lost again by 5-3. Although we started the season with a record of 1-2, we have many games this weekend where we hope to emerge victorious, especially against our rival team Cardigan Mountain School.
Our coaches, Mr. Jiu and Mrs. Ramirez are new to coaching hockey, yet they are still eager to teach us and improve as coaches themselves. They make the practices fun yet still challenging. Their guidance has helped transform us into better hockey players and people in general.
A normal practice consists of starting with the chaos drill to warm up our bodies. The chaos drill is where two people are stickhandling while skating full speed in the circle while everyone around the circle is doing one-touch passes. After that, we go into a variety of different drills, working on our breakouts. We have been working to keep the puck in the offensive zone and practicing to get the puck out of the defensive zone safely and make a good pass to an attacker.
The 2023-2024 Thirds Hockey Team consists of the following players: Sequoia Borek ‘27, Stokes Botswick ‘25, Rafael Buerba ‘24, Teddy Cashel ‘25, Anderson Chiang ‘27, Andrew Choi ‘25, Joseph Holland ’26, Derek Kang ‘27, Minsung Kang ‘25, Fritz Keber ‘27, Jaewon Lee ‘25, Quinn McGruder ‘24, Rush Miller ‘24, Daniel Pang ‘27, David Park ‘27, Reed Pearce ‘24, James Shaw ‘25, Harvey Syres ‘27, Alan Zhao ‘25.
