Varsity Hockey

The Varsity hockey team has had a great start to the 2023-2024 season with a 9-2-2 record and is looking forward to jumping back in and continuing where we left off before break. For the past three weeks, the team has had plenty of time to bond while on the road after traveling to Europe for 11 days. We have developed so much as a team after getting exposure to a different brand of hockey there. In practices, we tend to focus on our passing and spacing in the offensive zone while continuously working on putting pucks in the back of the net. We hope to capitalize on these new strategies and style of play while carrying a tremendous amount of energy into the heart of the season. This upcoming weekend, the team will face our rivals, Cardigan, at home. This will be a true test of our skill as this is the biggest game of our season. We hope to demonstrate the hard work and efforts from our practices and past games into this weekend and the rest of the season.

The Eaglebrook Varsity Hockey team's success does not only come from how we perform on the ice but from all aspects of our life. The team consists of a close knit group of kids who spend 12 hours a day bonding in school, film sessions, and the gym before a 2 hour on ice practice. The time we spend together builds chemistry that not only creates strong friendships, but also allows us to read each other on the ice. As we learn each other's play style, we are able to set up calculated plays and bury the puck in the back of the net. Although we may not blow out other teams, we play a consistent hard fought game, wearing them out and allowing us to capitalize on their mistakes. This strategy has led to a successful start of the season and with our game against Cardigan on Saturday, we have to stay focused and not let anything distract us. We are going to have to play a complete hard fought game not letting social media, past games, or mixed emotions control us. We have the skill and the heart to beat Cardigan, but before we get too focused on that game, we have to focus on our next game this Wednesday and make sure we keep our win streak to continue the momentum into Cardigan. The Eaglebrook Varsity Team players are Andrew Borggaard ‘24, Dominic Coccia ‘25, Drew Davine ‘25, Drake Esquer ‘24, Chase Everett ‘25, Stefan Flaska ‘24, Derek Kelly ‘25, Mark Lichtner ‘24, Curran Markey ‘24, Vincent Mercadante ‘24, William Neves ‘24, Nicolas Potts ‘24, Dylan Potvin ‘24, Samuel Rivet ‘25, Joseph Sasso ‘24, Jackson Sheehy ‘25, Grayson Southwick-Hall ‘24, Jacob Thompson ‘26, Caden Weichselbaumer ‘24,Evan Williams ‘24. Coaches of the team are Head Coach Timothy Winslow, Anthony Bourdon, and Dylan Weichselbaumer.

With this roster I believe we could continue our successful season that we have had so far, and keep the energy we have built. When we play our game, we are able to create time and space with the puck and outwork other teams. With short shifts and determination, we are able to take away time and space from the other team and capitalize on their mistakes. If we play this way every game, we will have another successful season to use as an example for what Eaglebrook hockey is really about.
